CENFOTEC University - the only University specialized in Computer Science in Costa Rica - is a private higher education institution whose primary purpose is the curricular design and execution of programs for the training and updating of professionals, as well as carrying out research programs in the field of Information Technology (TIC).

CENFOTEC University was founded in January 2000 and is the only higher education center focused on Information Technology –TIC- in the Central American region. CENFOTEC was born to provide the incipient and growing software development industry with highly qualified, specialized and rapidly operational workforce that would allow it to compete internationally with high-quality standards.

In 2003, CENFOTEC University developed and taught the Software Engineering degree, the first in Costa Rica and Central America. Subsequently, programs were created in the areas of infrastructure support, database administration, cybersecurity, telematics and web development and design, with excellent reception in the technology sector. This approach, 100% aligned with the business sector, has allowed CENFOTEC University to have a track record and a recognition of the highest level, by both national entrepreneurs as well as international employers who hire the human resource generated over time.

Its “learning-by-doing” methodology (practical and highly professional training) emulates realistic work environments and allows students to deal with technology and their field of specialization from the first year of their training.

Today CENFOTEC is recognized by employers for the quality and relevance of its training programs and for its ability to innovate and design new relevant programs. It also has academic agreements with the main technology providers such as Oracle, SAP, Cisco, IBM, Microsoft, Red Hat, EC Council, ISTQB, ISC2, XTOL, Palo Alto, and with more than 160 companies with a business agreement.
